He is just 21 but don’t go by his age! He has mastered the art of Grilling bowlers! Shubman made his IPL debut in 2018 and hasn’t looked back ever since. He was adjudged the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ in IPL last year for his consistent performances.
Shubman has played in different batting orders and has succeeded in almost all of them, particularly as an opener. In the first year itself, he scored 203 runs (average 33.83) and followed it up with 296 runs in 2019 (average 32.88) with three half-centuries. His List A average of 45.60 and First Class average of 73.55 go on to show the amount of consistency he has maintained over the years.
Shubman caught everyone’s eyeballs with his mature performance in the 2018 U-19 World Cup. His superlative batting throughout the series, where he scored 372 runs at an average of 124.00, fetched him the Man of the Series Award.
He has also been hailed for keeping his head on the shoulder in pressure situations. One of his best knocks came against Mumbai Indians in a must-win game last year. He scored a quickfire 45-ball 76 to lay the foundation for Andre Russell to go for the kill. The Delhi lad shone with his bat during the India A vs NZ A series as well.
