Dinesh Karthik took up the Kolkata Knight Riders mantle following the exit of Gautam Gambhir. The Tamil Nadu-based player was bought by the franchise for Rs 7.4 crore in 2018, and ever since, it’s been a helluva journey for the wicketkeeper-batsman. He spearheaded the side to the playoffs in the first year itself.
Karthik has been spectacular with his leadership skills in domestic cricket as well, leading Tamil Nadu to two straight finals in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy last year. His blitzkrieg of 8-ball 29 in the Nidahas Trophy against Sri Lanka in 2018 brought everyone’s attention on his hitting as well as finishing skills.
Karthik, who made his IPL debut in 2014 for Delhi, has been the fulcrum of Team KKR for the last two seasons, mesmerizing all of us with his balancing act as he switches between keeping, batting and leading the side with absolute effortlessness. His healthy average of 31.62 (2019) and 49.80 (2018) goes on to prove his consistency as a middle order batsman.
