A video has surfaced on the internet from Australia's recent centre-wicket practice session, where Pat Cummins is seen beating the outside edge of Steve Smith's bat with a lethal outswinging delivery with a pink ball.

Smith, who shared the video on his Instagram handle with a caption "When you are facing 142 km Leg spinners! Bowled @patcummins30" was visibly astonished by the delivery, as it zipped past him after swerving away from just outside the legstump at a good length.

Speaking on the kind of conditions he expects at the Adelaide Oval for the day-night Test match starting 17 December, Cummins had recently said: "I don't think a Test match where a team can get 600 is good viewing for anyone, so hopefully a really fair contest."

"Obviously here in Australia we want the kind of conditions that reflect Australia, think the best Test matches are when there is pace and bounce in the wickets. Adelaide Oval has been a really good wicket each time I've played. So, a bit of pace and bounce and hopefully a bit of spin for Lyno [Nathan Lyon] too."

Cummins was rested for the last of three One-Day Internationals and the Twenty20 series vs India to give him enough rest to be 100 per cent fit for the Test series.

"In Pat’s case, it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer," Justin Langer, the Australian coach had said when the decision was taken.

"I feel fresh, that week or so I had a home was great preparation," Cummins said earlier this week, before the Test contingent entered training.

An enthralling Test series is on the cards, with India looking to repeat their impressive feat in 2018-19, when they won the Test series 2-1 in Australia, while the hosts will be desperate to make amends for that loss and regain their stronghold with a reinforced squad in place.
