After a slow start to the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League, skipper Eoin Morgan anchored the run chase with an unbeaten knock of 47 runs to guide the Knight Riders to a comprehensive five-wicket win over Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

A clinical bowling display, led by Prasidh Krishna's three-wicket haul and Shivam Mavi's 1/13, ensured the Punjab outfit was restricted for 123/9 in the first innings.

Chasing a modest total, the Knight Riders struggled in the powerplay as they lost three wickets with 17 runs on the board. Coming in at number five, Eoin Morgan anchored the innings and forged a crucial partnership with Rahul Tripathi.

The duo added 66 runs for the fourth wicket before Tripathi was dismissed after scoring a quick-fire 41 off 32 deliveries.

Despite the fall of Tripathi's wicket, the southpaw continued to take on the opposition and finished unbeaten on 47 off 40 deliveries. En route to this match-defining innings, he amassed 7000 runs across T20s and helped the team register a comfortable five-wicket win.

The knock proved to be extremely important in the context of the game as it helped the team jump to the fifth position in the points table.
