20-year old Shubman Gill was named in India’s Test Squad against New Zealand. Shubman replaced the injured Rohit Sharma who suffered a calf injury in India’s 5th T20I encounter against New Zealand. The announcement was made by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.

Shubman recently scored an unbeaten 204* & a run-a-ball 83 in the first unofficial test against New Zealand A. He was also a part of India’s Test squad against Bangladesh but couldn’t get any playing time then. The Punjab born batsman will be hoping to make his Test debut as India faces New Zealand in Wellington from February 21. The second Test will be played in Christchurch from February 29.

Shubman has got fond memories in New Zealand, he was named as the Man of the Series in the 2018 U-19 World Cup for scoring 372 runs at an average of 124.00 at the 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup. He played a crucial role in India's record fourth world title.
