Put in to bat, the young guns of the KKR unit, Shubman Gill and Rana, laid a solid foundation with a 53-run opening partnership. With consistent performances in the lead-up to this game, Rana was expected to anchor the innings and guide them to a fighting total in the stipulated 20 overs.

Despite wickets tumbling around him, he continued to keep the Knight Riders in the game with excellent stroke play. The 27-year-old single-handedly carried the team through to 172/5.
