Four years ago, India started their Champions Trophy campaign with a commanding 124-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan at the Edgbaston.

The Men in Blue entered this much-anticipated tournament as the defending champions, winning the coveted title back in 2013 in England under the astute leadership of M.S Dhoni.

The Indian opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan started the innings steadily after being asked to bat first. In this very tournament in 2013, India unearthed Rohit Sharma's ability as an opening batsman.

The duo stitched a crucial 136-run partnership for the opening wicket to lay a foundation for the Indian team before the southpaw was dismissed for 68. Coming in at number three, Virat Kohli started the innings aggressively by taking the attack to the opposition.

Along with Rohit Sharma, he ensured that the scoreboard is ticking over in the middle overs before launching an attack in the final 15 overs of the innings.

Despite Rohit's wicket courtesy of a run out for 91, skipper Kohli motored around with experienced Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj started the innings aggressively by taking the attack to the opposition from the get-go. He smashed a destructive 53 off 32 balls, studded with eight boundaries and one maximum to guide the team closer to the 300 run mark.

Persistent rain and wet outfield resulted in the match being curtailed to 41 overs and a revised target of 289 runs for Pakistan to chase. However, they were jolted early in the run-chase, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar trapping Ahmed Shehzad for 12 runs.

With wickets tumbling in the middle overs, courtesy of some brilliance in the field and accurate bowling, the pressure of the scoreboard got the better of most of the batsmen.

Despite Azhar Ali's fighting half-century and Mohammad Hafeez's 33, they endured a 124-run loss.

For the Indian team, Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 30 runs in 7.4 overs.

Yuvraj Singh was awarded the player of the match for his quickfire half-century that propelled India to a massive first innings total.
