Match 51 of the Indian Premier league featuring the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings witnessed one of the greatest run chases as Brendon McCullum led from the front to hunt down a massive total set by MS Dhoni's men.

With valuable contributions from the top order after electing to bat first, the Super Kings posted a mammoth total of 188 runs in their quota of 20 overs.

Chasing 189 runs under lights at the Supersport Park in Centurion was always going to be a daunting task for the Knights. However, the then skipper Brendon McCullum produced one of the most blistering knocks of the tournament, scoring 81 runs off 48 balls to guide the team over the finish line.

The swashbuckling opener started in an emphatic fashion, recording four consecutive boundaries off Sudeep Tyagi in the final over of the field restrictions.

His blitz at the start of the innings helped the Knight Riders race to 56 runs in the powerplay, with McCullum unbeaten on 50 off 21 balls.

The former Kiwi skipper stitched a 90-run partnership with Brad Hodge for the second wicket to lay a solid foundation for the run chase.

His destructive innings was studded with 11 boundaries and three massive sixes. Though there was a bit of nerves when McCullum got out in the 14th over, Hodge's 71 not out off just 44 balls ensured KKR registered a comprehensive seven-wicket win in the end.
