The Kolkata Knight Riders battled the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their final game of the same after a long layoff due to unforeseen circumstances and inclement weather. The Knights were eager to end the season on a high and put up a fighting performance to earn this victory for their pride and their fans. SRH opted to bat first after winning the toss as KKR aimed to start well with the new ball and pick up wickets in the powerplay. The bowlers aimed to keep it tight and build pressure over the SRH batters. Despite KKR’s best efforts, SRH got off to a blazing start. Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen played tremendous knocks while KKR kept fighting to come back into the game. A good spell from Sunil Narine reaped rewards for KKR as he picked up two crucial wickets, however the carnage continued from the other end in the form of Klaasen. Unfortunately, none of the plans went KKR’s way as SRH kept plundering the boundaries. SRH set a massive target of 279 for KKR’s runchase.

KKR started off their run-chase in an outstanding fashion as Sunil Narine started off the fireworks right from the outset. The southpaw smashed boundaries in all parts of the ground as they took the attack to SRH. However, Narine succumbed soon after as he kept going for the big shots. With such a huge target and the pitch slowing down, the KKR batters kept falling in an attempt to find the boundaries. However, the Knights kept fighting hard as a lower order blitz from Manish Pandey and Harshit Rana kept the hunt going. A 50-run partnership between the two of them helped KKR move towards their target however it wasn’t enough. Despite fighting till the end, KKR lost the game by a big margin. As this season full of ups and downs comes to an end, KKR will be looking to pick the positives, go back to the drawing board and bounce back stronger next year.
