India and Pakistan have been pooled in the same group (Group 2) for the Men's T20 World Cup, starting on October 17 in Oman and the UAE. The last time the two teams squared off was in the 2019 Men's ODI World Cup on June 16, which India had comfortably won by 89 runs via D/L method.

The Indian limited overs team is currently touring Sri Lanka for their 3-ODI and 3-T20I fixtures while Virat Kohli and Co. are preparing for their 5-match Test series against England, starting August 4th.

Right after the announcement of the draw, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, vice captain of the Sri Lanka-bound Indian outfit, expressed his excitement to play Pakistan once again and said, "Look, it is always exciting to play against Pakistan, and it is always a pressure and high-intensity match. But, to be honest, we have not really thought about how it is going to be because we have a lot of cricket left."

He further added, "We have got matches in Sri Lanka and of course Test matches in England and then the IPL and then the World Cup. Once we get off the IPL, we will start thinking about that."
