Former India cricketer and an integral part of India's 1983 World Cup winning campaign, Yashpal Sharma died of a cardiac arrest in New Delhi at the age of 66 on Tuesday.

"Yes, Yashpal is no more with us. We just received the information from his family," a former India teammate of Yashpal confirmed the news to PTI.

According to sources, Sharma collapsed at home after returning from his morning walk. He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.

Sharma played 37 Tests, scoring 1,606 runs, and 42 ODIs in which he scored 883 runs for India. His gritty half-century in the semifinal against England in the 1983 campaign at Old Trafford is one of the major highlights of his career. Sharma was also a national selector in early 2000s.

In Ranji Trophy, he represented three teams - Haryana, Railways and Punjab - where he amassed 8933 runs in 160 matches that included 21 tons.
