Over the years, Dinesh Karthik has earned many accolades donning the national jersey and plying his trade for the Indian team. In the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship, social media and cricketing pundits heaped praises on our Knight, albeit in a different role.

After a brief stint with Sky Sports during India's home series against England in February, he made his debut in the commentary panel for the historic Test match featuring India and New Zealand last month.

In an interview with the PTI, Karthik shared insights on his experience with Sky Sports. "I did that, and it went pretty well. That is when I got the opportunity to do commentary, and I decided to go for it. The mindset was just to speak about whatever little I know about the game," he said.

Amid the growing concerns of the pandemic, the 36-year-old was fortunate to spend some time in Serbia with legendary Sunil Gavaskar and understand the nuances in the art of commentary.

Reflecting on his time with the stalwart on Indian cricket, he said, "I am extremely lucky that it happened. He gave me a few tips, and it went well. More than the tips, the time I spent with him was very enlightening and enriching. It was also a lovely country, and Sunny bhai and I got to meet the Serbian cricket team, which was very interesting".

While the Indian team is on a break before their five-Test series against England, Karthik is busy sharing his knowledge in the white-ball format during the England and Sri Lanka series.

The Tamil Nadu born player is determined to change the perception of the people and shatter the stereotype by actively playing along with sharing his thoughts beyond the boundary ropes.

"There are a lot of other sports like basketball and football where current players come on air when they are not playing. Even now, during the Sri Lanka-England T20s, James Anderson was doing it for BBC in the next room. So it is a normal thing. It is only in India I think it is considered like a post-retirement option. I obviously want to break that stereotype to an extent, and I am happy to do this when I am not playing", he said.

An integral part of the Knight Riders, Karthik will aim to perform well in the second half of the Indian Premier League and stake a claim for himself in the World T20 scheduled later this year. "A lot would depend on how the IPL goes, so looking forward to do well for KKR and let's see if that helps me," he concluded.
