Playing in his natural batting position as an opener, 19-year old Shubman Gill stole the show at his home venue with a classy and mature 65-run knock. He started off with caution but grew with confidence as his innings went on.

He scored his 4th IPL fifty as a teenager (Highest in IPL), with three of them coming as an opener in IPL 2019. Gill’s composure along with playing with a cool head earned him plenty of praise. “I was playing at a strike-rate of 80-100 in the start but our run-rate was around 9 or 10, so that’s when I decided to stay there.”

Gill bagged his first IPL man of the match award for his match-winning show. “It feels good to win a Man of the Match award at my home ground, can’t get any better than this.”

An elated Shubman went on to mention about the home support he received from his close ones on his special night. “My whole family was there to watch the game, a few of my relatives from my village also came to watch so it felt nice to play well.”

In a special interview with IPL, Shubman questioned his dad on his wild celebration and his fifty. “I celebrated your fifty by doing the Bhangra step. I was a little nervous but confident that you would do well at your home ground,” said a jubilant Lakhwinder Singh.

KKR play their final league game against Mumbai Indians on 5th May at the Wankhede and Gill wants the team to continue the momentum. “We have got one more game and it would be good if we can win and make it to the play-offs.”
