23rd April 2017 will always be remembered as a #DusKiDahaad night. Our Knights put on an inspired show like never seen before. In the process, a plethora of new records were made last night (23 April, 2017) at Eden Gardens.
1. Sunil Narine’s magic continued at top of the order as he smashed fellow Trinidadian Samuel Badree for 18 runs in the first over. In this year’s IPL, that is the maximum number of runs scored in the opening over. The sequence was 0, 4, 4, 4, 6, 0.
2. The fun did not stop there as the opening pair of Narine and Gautam Gambhir continued their onslaught, bringing up the team half-century in only 23 balls. That is the joint-fastest team fifty (Mumbai Indians also brought up their fifty in 23 balls against KXIP) recorded in IPL 2017.
It was not a pretty sight thereafter as we folded up for a meager 131. However, our determined bowlers then came up triumphant show (and how) against a strong RCB batting line-up.
3. RCB’s total of 49 is the lowest in IPL and the 10th lowest in T20 history. Interestingly on 23rd April 2013, RCB also scored the highest team total of 263 in IPL history. Four years later, it was a completely different story though.
4. The RCB innings lasted for just 58 balls, which is second lowest shorted completed innings in terms of balls faced in T20 history.
5. 7, 0, 1, 8, 9, 8, 2, 0, 2, 5, 0. No, we aren’t talking about a phone number here. These were the individual scores of all the RCB batsmen (in batting order). This is the first instance in IPL history when all 11 players in a team were dismissed for single digit scores.
6. This was also the lowest total defended by our Knights in the IPL. We had defended 133 against Delhi Daredevils in 2008 at Eden Gardens. That was a special night. This was an epic one!
7. The RCB score at the end of the Powerplay overs was 4/39. Undoubtedly the wicket of Virat Kohli, Mandeep Singh, AB de Villiers and Kedar Jadhav during the first six overs was the turning point of the game. Nathan Coulter Nile and Umesh Yadav bowled all the six overs, the third time in IPL history that only two bowlers were used in the first six overs by us.
8. This was only the second instance when 20 wickets fell in an IPL match (the other time was Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals, 2010). While we lost them in 19.3 overs, RCB lost them in 9.4 overs.
