If all augurs and ends well on Day 5 of the first Test for India, the visitors might seal a 1-0 lead against England. After a counter-attacking fightback from England, courtesy of a brilliant 109 from skipper Joe Root, India need 157 more runs to clinch the Test win.

India were 52/1 at stumps with KL Rahul being sent back for 26 runs by Stuart Broad. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara were unbeaten on 12 runs each.

England made a great comeback into the game with 303 runs in the second innings, taking a lead of 208 runs. Root's knock that was etched with 14 boundaries laid the foundation of the England innings. The middle order and the tail ably supported him in turn to bolster the hosts' fight.

The India bowlers failed to contain Root en route to his 21st hundred until Jasprit Bumrah undid him with the new ball. He was the pick of the India bowlers as he returned his sixth fifer (5-64).

Bumrah accounted for Dom Sibley (28), Zak Crawley (6), Root (109), Sam Curran (32) and Broad (0). Md Siraj and Shardul Thakur picked up a couple of wickets each and Md Shami chipped in with a scalp too.
