It was the final of the Prudential Cup 1983. India, on the back of an unexpected dream run, were up against Clive Lloyd's West Indies, the defending champions who were playing in their third consecutive World Cup final.

But the Indian fans in the UK packed the stands hoping for a miracle, and the ones back home rallied around television sets to watch Kapil Dev's men give it a fight.

The coin spin went in West Indies's way, and India were put in to bat. Sunil Gavaskar was the first to fall, and the scoreboard read 2-1. Mohinder Amarnath and Kris Srikkanth managed to stitch a half-decent partnership before the latter was dismissed by the fiery Malcolm Marshall. The floodgates were opened, and the wickets kept tumbling.

Some resistance from the lower middle order helped India crawl 183 all out.

It looked like it was going to be a stroll in the park for the Caribbean men, but with Gordon Greenidge's dismissal early on, the scoreboard read 5/1. But out came Viv Richards, arguably the most dangerous batsman in the line-up. He made things look easy till an iconic moment came by.

Richards was breezing through when he played a miscued pull. Kapil Dev running backwards took the catch of his life. That moment on, everything changed. Panic trickled into the West Indies batting unit, and for the first time, they looked under pressure. India took full advantage of the situation and ripped through them. West Indies folded for 140, and victory had been achieved. The crowd stormed on to the pitch, and the rest is history. A win that inspired generations. 1983, the year it all changed
