Ranji Trophy 2017/18 Final Round
The last round of this year’s Ranji Trophy games were played across various venues in the country. With a quest to help their sides reach the quarter-finals, the players gave their all in the field.
Manish Pandey (vs Railways):
With Karnataka struggling at 3/19 against Railways, Manish Pandey walked in to the crease. In-form Mayank Agarwal was the other end and the duo bailed their team out of this difficult situation. The classy middle-order batsman struck a hundred and stitched together a 200- run plus partnership with Agarwal. Thanks to this effort, Karnataka were able to post 434 in their first innings. Karnataka moved into the quarter-finals with a comfortable 209-run win and will play Mumbai.
Rishi Dhawan (vs Vidarbha):
The Himachal Pradesh all-rounder had a brilliant match with the bat and ball against Vidarbha. Batting first, Dhawan made a crucial 71 while batting at No. 7. His knock included eleven fours as his partnership with Akash Vasisht helped them rebuild the innings. Dhawan followed his knock with 4/96 to continue a good game for him. Dhawan, again contributed with the bat as he hit 53. Although the match was drawn, Dhawan impressed with his all-round abilities.
Sheldon Jackson (vs Rajasthan):
After missing chances of playing a big knock in the last few matches, Sheldon Jackson finally came to the party for Saurashtra with a brilliant 94 against Rajasthan. After Avi Barot and Robin Uthappa laid a strong platform, Sheldon played a sublime innings. He struck 12 boundaries and helped his team post 534 on the board in the first innings.
Robin Uthappa (vs Rajasthan):
Coming to bat at No. 4, Robin Uthappa scored 59 against Rajasthan. He has looked in good form from the past few matches but missed out on converting this to a big one. His presence in the middle order stabilizes the balance of the team. Although, Saurashtra have failed to qualify for the QFs, Uthappa surely left with a good impression.
