Shakib Al Hasan wins the 'mental battle' to shine in the ODI series against Zimbabwe

The past week has been very special in the history of Bangladesh cricket and Shakib Al Hasan. In a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe away from home, Shakib Al Hasan showcased his all-around ability to propel Bangladesh to a 3-0 series win at Harare.

The 34-year old is currently the number one all arounder in the ICC rankings in the fifty-over format and proved his prowess with the bat amassing 145 runs in three matches at an average of 72.70, including an unbeaten 96 runs in a 241-run thrilling run chase.

Shakib was equally destructive with the ball as he wreaked havoc with a five-wicket haul (5/30) in the first ODI. En route to this five-wicket haul, he achieved a historic feat by going past Mashrafe Mortaza's 269 ODI wickets.

With eight wickets in the series and valuable contributions with the bat, he was adjudged the Player of the Series for his all-around performance. Talking about his success in the tournament, Shakib said, "At this stage my problem was not technical. It was more of a mental battle, which once I could overcome, playing freely and scoring runs got easy."

Bangladesh will lock horns with Zimbabwe in the shortest format of the game, starting on Thursday, 22nd July.
