It seems KKR vice-captain Dinesh Karthik has been enjoying his new role as a commentator quite a bit. After joining the Sky Sports commentary panel for the India-England series and already being finalised for the England & Wales Cricket Board’s much-hyped upcoming league, The Hundred, Karthik will now be seen in the commentary panel of the World Test Championship Final too!

India will take on New Zealand in the final from June 18-22 in Southampton. Talking to The Hindu newspaper about this new role, Karthik said, “I was a bit fortunate the way it (commentary stint) came to me. I think I can bring to the table things like technique and strategy. I have played with the cricketers in both teams, know the way they think and will try to get into their heads.”

Karthik backed the Indian pace attack and said that if the batsmen could get strong partnerships going, India have a great chance to win the final. “We have a potent pace attack. And if we can build partnerships, I see no reason why we cannot win,” he said.

The 36-year-old, who is currently in quarantine in Serbia on his way to the UK, also expressed his desire to play for India again and insisted that as long as he could tick off the fitness criteria boxes, there was no reason as to why age should stop him from dreaming about donning the India jersey once more!

“The passion is still there. The prospect of playing for the country again in white-ball cricket is what keeps me going,” said Karthik, who last played an international match in July 2019 (vs NZ in Manchester).

“We live an era where fitness parameters are set for a cricketer. You have to clear those fitness tests to be picked in the Indian team. So, if you are fit, where is the question of age,” he added.
