Lara gets special shoe signed by Akram
Wasim Akram, the former Pakistan legend and KKR's bowling coach in our title-winning seasons, Tweeted a photo on Friday (June 11) to reveal a special exchange with West Indies great Brian Lara from their recent meeting.
Akram was referring to the fourth match of the 1992 Cricket World Cup, where Lara hit a scintillating knock of 88 not out before retiring hurt when a pin-point yorker from Akram forced him to retire hurt. By then however, chasing 221, West Indies were in a comfortable position to bag a victory.
Lara and Desmond Haynes (93 ot out) scored 175 runs for the first wicket in just 37 overs, to seal the 10-wicket win for the Caribbean side. Notably, this was Lara's first ever appearance in the Cricket World Cup.
